Finally the long wait is over, you can now post animated GIF on Facebook. Yes, you read it right, Facebook recent update give their users the power to share animated pictures on their wall or timeline.
1987 when CompuServe introduced the Graphics Interchange Format better by its acronym GIF.
It is a bitmap format that supports up to 8 bits per pixel for each image, allowing a single image to reference its own palette of up to 256 different colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color space. It also supports animations and allows a separate palette of up to 256 colors for each frame.
How to Post Animated GIF on Facebook
Ok, to post animated GIF on Facebook, simply paste the link of your favorite animated GIF file into your status, for now it only supports the GIF file uploaded or hosted on third party websites like Tumblr, Imgur, Giphy etc. Uploading animated GIF image directly to Facebook will still show as still image.
You can also remove the link of the GIF image to make it look like it uploaded directly on Facebook.
The animated GIF image won’t play automatically unless user update their auto-play settings of Facebook videos. You will only see a dashed circle with GIF inside or a play button.
This new update looks like still rolling out, it may not work for you for now, but expect it in the following days. Facebook page still not supported of this update.
