How does one exactly renew a driver’s license in the country? Well, allow me to teach you the process and requirements.

Revised Guidelines

Before we dive into the details, you have to know that LTO released Department Order No. 2015-014 just this year. The revised guideline for driver license renewal requires holders of Professional Driver’s License (PDL), Non-Professional Driver’s License (NPDL), and Conductor’s License (CL) to apply at least 1 month before expiration.

In case the expiration date is on a holiday, a non-working day, or a weekend, the license can then be renewed a day before the license expiration to avoid paying penalties.

The Requirements

Now here are the basic requirements you should take note of:

1. Present a medical certificate

When renewing a driver’s license, you will need to submit a medical certificate which should indicate that you are physically and mentally able to drive. The condition of your eyesight and hearing should be specified as well, whether you have clear vision and hearing or if you are using corrective glasses or hearing aids.

Of course, the medical certificate should be issued by a licensed physician. Furthermore, pertinent details such as the physician’s name, address, Professional Tax Receipt (PTR) number, and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) number.

2. Indicate your TIN

If you are renewing a Professional Driver’s License, Tax Identification Number (TIN) is also part of the requirements.

3. Payment of required fees and charges

Of course you will need a cash to renew your Driver’s License, you can find the required fees and charge here, plus the medical fee.

4. Your presence

Needless to say, you need to make a personal appearance in the office. This is because you will need to have your picture taken as well as your biometric signature.

The Process

Now that you have all the requirements ready, it’s time to head to your local LTO office.

Window 1

Proceed to Window 1 and present your medical certificate along with the expired license. The LTO Evaluator will check your documents and see if all the information are correct. You will also be shown the details so you can confirm whether they are right or if there are any necessary corrections. After everything, data will be transmitted and you will go to Window 2.

Window 2

After receiving the transmitted data, you will have to go to Window 2 to have your photo and signature taken.

Window 3

Finally, go to Window 3 to pay the fees and get your newly-issued driver’s license.

It’s that simple actually. Be warned, however, that you have to submit an authentic medical certificate. Anyone who uses a fake one will not be allowed to have license renewal so don’t even try to take any chances.
