Apple iPhone Isn’t Turning On Anymore?

| , ,

Even though we are at the peak of our technology, it still has its flaws. Apple, being one of the top contenders in the smartphone market does not only display sophistication through their products; complexity and intelligence as well. Although most Apple products might look flawless and godly, there would still come a time where you won’t be satisfied with how it’s functioning.

Ever experienced your iPhone to be completely black even if you’ve raided the power and home buttons? Well there might be problems but there are fixes so don’t worry. Moreover, this applies to iPads as well so if you have either one and you’re afraid that this problem might occur, continue reading.

So what do I do when this happens?

One of the more probable reasons why this will happen is because its battery is completely 0%. If you’re unaware, Apple products mostly iPhones do not light up immediately when you plug it in. Unlike Android phones, they would require a minimum amount of battery perhaps 6-8% before they would turn on and show you that it’s charging.

Having this in mind, the first thing you want to do if it greets you with a pitch black screen is you…

Plug it in

Yeah, just plug it in. Wait for about 20-30 minutes before checking back on it to see if it resolved the problem. Generally speaking, you will know that it’s low battery when you try turning it on and it’ll show that it has no battery left. However, if it’s completely drained, signs of it being low battery won’t show so don’t panic; it might just be that your phone’s done for the day.

First thing you need to do is to plug it in, right? To stress on it, ensure that you use a wall plug not to a laptop, a power bank or other battery sources. Connecting it to a different power source might make it worse so to avoid that, find a good wall charging spot and charge there. If it doesn’t work, try your spare charger. Maybe the problem is with the charger, not the phone.

When all else fails and it’s still giving you nothing, this is the time when you should…

Power button + Home button – Hard Reset

When charging won’t make your device up and running, you now need to resort to doing a hard reset. Also known as a factory reset or a master reset, what this does is that it takes your phone/device back in time as it restores the device’s state when it left the factory. In simpler terms, it returns back to the device when you first bought it. It will delete everything from contacts, messages, files, to applications, cached data, and so on. Literally giving your phone that fresh feel when it was first outed by the factory.

Since iPhones and iPads literally freeze in place when they malfunction; or in this case fade to black, hard resetting it would be the next best option that you have. Before smartphones lurked our planet, what’s considered a hard reset is when we suddenly remove the battery from a device or when we disrupt the cabling of a certain device from where it is without it being turned off or without notice.

Apple products, specifically iPhones and iPads do not have removable batteries so instead, the hard reset was made to force it to shut off manually.

Doing the hard reset isn’t a chemistry equation, you just need to press and hold both the power button and the home button at the same time. Do this until you see the screen turn black; the Apple logo will then appear signaling the restart or reboot of your device.

NOTE: For iPhone 7 and above, hard resetting is pressing and holding the power/wake button and the volume down button.

Doing these two (2) things when you see that it’s not starting up should fix the problem. However if it works but it gives you an error message, you need to:

Restore it through iTunes

If it turns on and an error that says “Connect to iTunes,” or “iTunes not recognized,” you’ll need to use your PC or laptop for this.

Things you’ll need:

  • A desktop or a laptop or a MAC that has iTunes
  • Apple iPhone or iPad cable; Lastly,
  • A little bit of patience

First thing you have to do is to run iTunes on the laptop. Once it’s up and running and ready to function, plug in your iPhone or iPad. Once done, iTunes will prompt you that a device is in recovery mode or there is a problem with your device or it’s required that you update to the latest iTunes or it requires updating and restoral. So if this is the case, you just need to Update or Restore.

Even working Apple devices can be restored and this is by turning it off first. Then, connect it to a computer or a laptop while holding and pressing the home button. Although you should not do this when your device is working seamlessly; unless of course you want a clean-as-new phone.

NOTE: This process will erase every file you have on your Apple iPhone or iPad. Since your device is already inaccessible with its error, it’s better to have it this way so you can at least access your device. You can always restore through iCloud later.

If none of these work. then it’ll be your best bet to contact Apple. If you still have insurance, then congratulations but if you don’t, they will repair it but it will come with a cost.

Apple products are sophisticated that they require utmost complexity and expenses. Since it assures you that they won’t be infiltrated by unwanted external sources, it will of course require you to have something in exchange.
